You eat breakfast, or drink coffee or milk around the same time as you take your levothyroxine tablets (Levoxyl®, Synthroid®, Unithroid®, or generic levothyroxine).

WHAT COULD BE GOING ON?

The food, coffee or milk could be impairing absorption of your levothyroxine.

ACTION PLAN:

You have three options:

  • Ideally, you should always wait 30 minutes to an hour after taking levothyroxine tablets before eating or drinking coffee or milk.

  • Talk to your provider about taking your levothyroxine tablets at bedtime, instead of the morning. This frees you up to eat and drink in the morning without restrictions.

  • You can switch to Tirosint® or Tirosint®-SOL, which are resistant to interference from food, coffee and milk.
