You eat breakfast, or drink coffee or milk around the same time as you take your levothyroxine tablets (Levoxyl®, Synthroid®, Unithroid®, or generic levothyroxine).
WHAT COULD BE GOING ON?
The food, coffee or milk could be impairing absorption of your levothyroxine.
You have three options:
Ideally, you should always wait 30 minutes to an hour after taking levothyroxine tablets before eating or drinking coffee or milk.
Talk to your provider about taking your levothyroxine tablets at bedtime, instead of the morning. This frees you up to eat and drink in the morning without restrictions.
You can switch to Tirosint® or Tirosint®-SOL, which are resistant to interference from food, coffee and milk.
